Junior Rocks Season Summary 2007 - 2008 (Click on an image for additional links)

29-30 Mar: Grade School State Championships  ColinK, AlexM, JoshM, and RyanR represented the Toledo Central Catholic Junior Rocks at the 5th annual grade school state championships at Ohio University's Convocation Center. These four wrestlers competed in twenty matches, had thirteen victories, accounted for two state placements, and gained lots of valuable experience while having some fun! Colin finished as the 3rd best wrestler in his age and weight division in the state of Ohio! Alex was able to achieve a 4th place finish in the state of Ohio! 15/16 Mar: Junior High State Championships Alex Padilla, Kent Kern, & Levi Pickerel represented the Toledo Central Catholic Junior Rocks at the 10th annual junior high state championships at Ohio University's Convocation Center! The competition and the venue were both top notch!! Each of these wrestlers won two or more bouts in this single-division state championship tournament! Kent and Levi competed in six individual matches each and both came home with All-Ohio honors, placing 5th in their respective weight classes! See photos here, See

8 Mar: Toledo Central Catholic Spring Tournament Wrestlers from Michigan and Ohio braved the snow storm and competed at the Toledo Central Catholic Spring Tournament! See award photos here,   see wrestling photos here. Thanks to all of those who volunteered see some folks here. Experience was gained, fun was had, and good sportsmanship was shown!
20 Feb: 1st-4th Grade Biddy Rocks Check out the Biddy Rocks in their new duds! These 1st through 4th graders are having fun and are learning the basics of wrestling! Coach Naufel is enjoying the energy level of these guys!
17 Feb: OAC Junior High Districts Five wrestlers representing the Toledo Central Catholic Junior Rocks participated in the OAC Junior High District Championships at Bowling Green State University's Perry Field House ... the Junior Rocks came home with some hardware. Kent Kern (176) was crowned as a District Champ! Levi Pickerel (249) finished with runner-up honors, and Alex Padilla (132) battled back to place third! All three of these guys qualified to the OAC Junior High State Tournament to be held in Athens, OH at the Ohio University's Convocation Center on March 14,15,16.  See State Pairings here, see more photos here.
11 Feb: Catholic Chronicle Article Naufel family of wrestlers passes on lessons from home, and Catholic school Read about Head Coach Mitch Naufel and his brothers.
9 Feb: 5th - 8th grade CYO Championships Eight members of the 5th thru 8th grade Toledo Central Catholic Junior Rocks Wrestling squad traveled to Lakewood St. Edward High School for the CYO Championship finals. The Toledo squad finished in 6th place out of the 14 teams in the league and had 6 place winners. Kent K placed 2nd, Josh M and Alex P placed 3rd, Colin K and Alex M placed 4th. and Jake V placed 5th. All in all, the Junior Rocks competed in 27 matches against some very solid competition and came home with some great expreience and 14 victories! Fun was had by all!  photos 
2 Feb: 5th-8th grade CYO Sectionals  Eight members of the Junior Rocks competed at St. Albert the Great in CYO Sectional competition. Toledo Central Catholic finished 2nd as a team, all eight wrestlers finished in the top four of their weight classes and qualified for the CYO Championship tournament.  Josh M, Kent K won their weight divisions. Colin K and Alex P finished 2nd. Alex M and Jake V finished 3rd. Ryan R and Esteban N finished 4th. 
27 Jan: 5th-8th grade CYO dual matches Eleven wrestlers traveled to St. Mary's Berea to compete in dual meet competition with St. Thomas More and St. Mary's. All told, exhibition matches included, the guys competed in 29 matches and came home with 21 victories. Experience was gained and fun was had!
25 Jan: Field Trip  CCHS wrestling families traveled to Ann Arbor to watch the Purdue Boilermakers battle with the Wolverines of U of M. The wrestling leadership from Coach Vaughn's alma mater, Scott Hinkle and Tom Erickson, came with some media guides and spoke with the wrestlers from Toledo. Fun was had by all!

20 Jan: Junior High Catholic Invitational Tournament The Junior Rocks traveled to Lakewood St. Edward and competed with sixteen Catholic teams from across the State finishing 7th overall.  Kent K and Levi P won championships at their respective weight classes, Alex P was a runner-up and Jake V placed 4th.  All of the Junior Rocks gained valuable experience and had some fun in the process!
13 Jan: In Their Words Blade Article  Coach Doc Leffler discusses wrestling history, philosophy, and the future in this Toledo Blade article. Doc also explains how he got the nickname 'Doc'.
13 Jan: 5th-8th Junior Rocks CYO  Nine Junior Rock wrestlers competed in dual matches with St. Greg, Ascension, and St. Gabriel competing in 31 matches and coming home with 18 victories. Experience was gauned and fun was had!
6 Jan: 5th-8th grade Junior Rocks CYO After two weather related cancellations the Junior Rocks from Toledo Central Catholic traveled to St. Alberts and competed with St. Bernadette and St Alberts. Experience was gained and fun was had!!
29 Dec: Junior High Norwalk St. Paul Invitational - Junior Rocks finished 7th out of a field of fifteen teams. Matt Pool was crowned the champion at 82 lbs and Jake Venia finished 2nd at 106 lbs.

22 Dec: Central Catholic Junior High Duals  Ten Junior High teams traveled to Toledo for Junior High competition. Elida took home the team championship and the Junior Stallions of Columbus DeSales returned with the runner-up honors. Other teams participating were: Oak Harbor (Red), Bowling Green, Liberty Center, Gibsonburg, Oak Harbor (Green), North Baltimore, and Toledo St. John's.

7 Dec: Field Trip to U of M Twenty-three members & family of  the Junior Rocks & CCHS wrestling teams traveled to Cliff Keen Arena to watch a dual match between the University of Michigan & Kent State University.  The Wolverines out-pointed the Golden Flashes by a score of 26-14.  The wrestlers were able to get a photo with two Northwest Ohio wrestling products who wrestle for Kent State! The photo on the left shows the gang with Sly Bostleman (State Champ from Otsego) and Drew Lashaway (State Champ from Eastwood). Experience was gained & fun was had by all!
