Feb 13, 2010 TCL Varsity Championships - Thirteen Irish wrestlers traveled to Toledo Rogers for Varsity league competition. Seniors, Dan Cook, Nico Covarrubias, and Tom Keogh represented themselves and Central Catholic well by earning Academic All-City honors!!  CCHS came home with the Team Runner-up honors behind the Eagles of Oregon Clay. CCHS sent seven wrestlers to the finals, four earned individual Championships. Overall eleven CCHS wrestlers placed in their respective weight classes. Dan Cook(130), DJ Beauch(152), Tony Martin(160) and Jake Henderson(215) won Championships! Jake captured his third TCL Championship and remains undefeated on the season! Dan and DJ each earned their 2nd league Championship! Finishing as runner-ups for the Irish were Sophomore Alex Padilla(135), and Seniors Nico Covarrubias(145) & Vincenzo Cardone(285). Placing 3rd for the Irish were Freshman Matt Pool(103), Sophomore Brian Elden(119), & Senior Tom Keogh(171). Junior Jason Mossing (140) placed 4th. The Irish are eager to enter into the postseason!

Feb 13, 2010 Cleveland CYO Championship - Fourteen Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to Lakewood St. Edward High School to compete in the 2010 Diocesan Championships. Overall, Toledo Central Catholic finished 4th as a team, earned three individual Championships and had ten total place winners! ColinK, AlexM, and AlexR were crowned as Champions, becoming the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Toledoans to earn this honor! Also placing for the Junior Rocks were: ZachK as a runner-up , JoshM & AhmadJ finished 4th, JimmyT, LucasB & OceanA placed 5th, and BurrowA ended up 6th. Upon completion of our fifth year in the league, we thank the Cleveland CYO for providing our Toledo team the opportunity to be involved with such a great group of people. The wrestlers, coaches, officials and families in this league are putting their faith into action and we are proud to be a part of it!  Photos.

Feb 7, 2010 Grade School Districts - Seven Junior Rock wrestlers participated in the Grade School District Championships at Oregon Clay High School.  Brandon H earned a championship in his age and weight division.  Jimmy T, Burrow A and Otha J also placed in their age and weight divisions .  These 4 wrestlers earned a spot in the Grade School State Championships held March 13-14 at Marion Colliseum.  Photos

Feb 6, 2010 Eastwood Duals - The Irish varsity squad traveled in wintery conditions to Pemberville to compete in the Eastwood Duals.  In the opening round the Irish defeated Toledo Waite 66-3. In second round action CCHS outpointed Akron St. Vincent St. Mary by a score of 46-22.  In round 3, CCHS was defeated by the Blue Devils of Burgettstown, PA by a score of 37-28.  In round 4 the Irish defeated Eastwood 36-33.  In the 5th and final round, CCHS was defeated by the Redskins of Wapakoneta by a score of 36-22.  The Irish came home with a 3rd place trophy and finished the 2009-2010 season with a dual meet record of 21-6.  Dan Cook, DJ Beauch, Tony Martin and Jake Henderson were 5-0 and undefeated on the day. Feb 6, 2010 Clay Junior Varsity Invitational - CCHS Junior Varsity wrestlers traveled to Oregon Clay and finished 4th overall as a team. Jake Smith-Heshley was crowned as a Champion! Levi Pickerel finished  as a runner-up. Matt Wlodarski and Vicente Vielma placed 3rd and Kelvin Lawrence placed 4th in the 189 lb weight division. Congratulations Irish!

Jan 30, 2010 Anthony Wayne Dual Meet Tournament - The Varsity wrestlers participated in a well run Dual Meet Tournament hosted by Anthony Wayne High School.  The Central Catholic Wrestlers defeated opponents Sylvania Northview 59-14, Loraine Admiral King 60-15, Midpark 49-22, and Anthony Wayne 40-27.  The Irish were outpointed by a solid Amherst Steele team 38-27 and finished with runner-up honors.  CCHS wrestlers winning all 5 matches on the day were Brian Elden, Dan Cook, DJ Beauch, Tony Martin and Jake Henderson.  Photos. 

Jan 30, 2010 Cleveland CYO Dual Meet Tournament - Seventeen Junior Rock Wrestlers traveled to Westlake, Ohio to participate in the first annual Cleveland CYO Dual Meet Tournament held at St. Bernadettes.  The Junior Rocks competed in four dual matches with Holy Cross, St. Thomas More, St. Joseph & John and St. Bernadette with a 3-1 dual meet record finishing 3rd overall.  Undefeated wrestlers on the day were Colin K, Alex M and Alex R.  Once again, the CYO environment provided excellent competition in an outstanding atmosphere.  Photos.

Jan 27, 2010 Central Catholic - Clay Dual Meet - The evening began with eight Junior Varsity matches with the Irish capturing victories at 135 with Junior Kyle Roberts, 140 with Sophomore Matt Wlodarski, and 160 with Sophomore Vicente Vielma.  As the gymnasuim started to fill, the Seniors and their parents were recognized: Nico Covarrubias with parents Alesha & Art, Vincenzo Cardone with parents Rhonda & Vince, Dan Cook with parents Mike & Kathy, Jake Henderson with parents Linda & Dave, and Tom Keogh with parents Debbie & Tom.  Coach Naufel gave a special award to Honorary Coach Dr. Thomas Louis Maloney.  See bio here.  The IRISH provided a healthly environment for a quality dual meet! The evening began with a prayer lead by long time announcer Tom Bedell in front of a near capacity crowd in the front gymnasium on the campus of Toledo Central Catholic.  After thirteen exciting matches and one forfeit each team captured seven victories the Eagles gained the advantage by capturing more bonus points outpointing the Irish by a score of 32-23.  See Toledo Blade write-up.  Photos.   See all individual matches hosted by Flowrestling.

Jan 24, 2010 CYO Week 5 - 14 Junior Rocks Wrestlers traveled to Ascension Parish for CYO dual meet competition with St. Charles and St. Thomas More.  31 matches were wrestled and valuable experience was gained.  Photos.

Jan 23, 2010 Lake High School Invitational - The Junior Varsity traveled to Lake HS.  Congratulations to Levi Pickerel - 1st Place!  Other place winners were Vicente Vielma, JeShondre Hollins and Kyle Roberts.

Jan 20, 2010  Central Catholic, St. John's Jesuit and St. Francis de Sales Trimeet - The Fighting Irish traveled to Bancroft St. to compete with Toledo St. Francis and Toledo St. John's in what was believed to be the first Toledo's Catholic Cup Trimeet between the three schools.  After the competition the hosts provided food and drink for wrestlers, coaches and families!  CCHS brought their season dual meet record to 13-2 by defeating St. Francis by a score of 56-15 and outpointing St. John's by a score of 49-24.  Undefeated CCHS wresters on the night were: Sophomore Brian Elden, Juniors: Jason Mossing, DJ Beauch, and Tony Martin, Seniors: Dan Cook, Nico Covarrubias, Jake Henderson, and Vincenzo Cardone! Junior Varsity Photos. Varsity photos.  

Jan 16-17, 2010 Catholic Invitational Tournament - The Irish traveled to Cleveland State University to compete in the 49th Annual CIT with Catholic school teams from across the state of Ohio. Thirty-six squads participated in this prestigious tournament, CCHS finished in 6th place overall! Junior DJ Beauch (145) and Senior Jake Henderson (215) represented NW Ohio and were crowned as CIT Champs! Senior Dan Cook (135) placed 3rd, Senior Nico Covarrubias (140), Junior Tony Martin (152) placed 5th and Sophomore Alex Padilla (130) earned a sixth place finish! Jan 17, 2010 Junior High CIT - Eleven Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to St. Edward HS in Lakewood, OH for the 12th Annual Junior High Catholic Invitational Tournament competing with top teams from across the state of Ohio. The Junior Rocks compted in 37 matches, came home with 18 victories, and finished 7th in the overall team standings out of the field of 20 teams.  Individually, ColinK (94lbs), AlexM (118lbs), and AlexR(124lbs) finished in 3rd place while JoshM (104lbs) earned a 4th place finish. Jan 10, 2010 Junior Rocks CYO Week 4 - 5th thru 8th grade Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to Ascension Parish in Cleveland for CYO competition with St. Joseph/John and Holy Family.  Fun was had and the wrestlers came home with two dual meet victories on the day.  See photos here.

Jan 9, 2010  Piloseno Duals @ Toledo Central Catholic - The Irish brought their 2009-10 season dual meet record to 11-2 by sweeping the field with a 5-0 record in front of a home crowd at the CCHS Sullivan Center. The Tournament is in memory of Daniel A. Piloseno.  The squad outpointed the RedWings of St. Johns Michigan in the Championship final by a score of 40-30. For the third time in as many years the Irish defeated a highly ranked Michigan team in the finale to take home the top honors. Undefeated 5-0 TCC wrestlers on the day were : Freshman Matt Pool (103), Sophomore Brian Elden (125), Senior Dan Cook (130), Senior Nico Covarrubias (140-145) , Junior DJ Beauch (145-152) , Junior Tony Martin (152-160), and Senior Jake Henderson (215).
     The Irish opened the day by defeating Huron 60-9, then shutting out Lincoln West 81-0. In third round competition CCHS outpointed Genoa 44-19, followed by a victory over Wayne Trace by a score 72-3.  See Photos here.

Jan 3, 2010 Junior Rocks CYO Week 3 - Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to St. Clarence in North Olmsted, OH for CYO competition with Holy Family and St. Brendan/Richard. In addition to being undefeated on the day, Alex R celebrated his 14th birthday!! See photos here.
 
 

Dec 2009 New Mat for CCHS Wrestling Program - As a result of the fund-raising support the program has received over the summer and fall, CCHS was able to purchase a new wrestling mat.  Thanks for your support as the program continues to build it's infrastructure!!
   

Dec 29-30 2009 49th Brecksville Holiday Tourny   Toledo  Central Catholic traveled to Brecksville, OH to compete in the Nation's oldest continuous running Holiday wrestling tournament. As always the tourny drew many top programs within and outside of the State of Ohio. Jake Henderson wins an individual Championship at 215 lbs in a weight division that had a returning State Champion and six state place winners! Congratulations Jake!  See Championship match here. DJ Beauch and Tony Martin finished 4th and 8th respectively at 145 and 152 lbs.  Overall Toledo Central Catholic finished in 13th position in the team race, up four spots from the 2008 finish. Dec 29, 2009 St. John's Junior Varsity Tournament - Junior Varsity wrestlers traveled across town to compete in the St. John's Jesuit tourny. The Irish finished in fourth place scoring 150 team points. The grapplers, competed in twenty-nine matches with nineteen victories. Jake Venia was a champion! Alex Padilla and Ronnie Sanner finished as runner-ups and Kyle Roberts placed third. See photos here.
 
 

Dec 28, 2009 Northview Junior Varsity Tournament - Junior Varsity wrestlers competed in the annual Northview Tournament and came home with the top honors!  The team scored 168.5 points with nine wrestlers on the podium.  Individual Champions were Jake Venia, Alex Padilla, Vicente Vielma, and Ronnie Sanner.  Andrew Faunce placed second and Elijah Jackson placed third.  Ben Njaim, Kyle Roberts and Jake Smith-Heshley finished fourth. Overall the wrestlers were 27-12 on the day. Photos.

Dec 23, 2009 Toledo Youth Christmas Tournament - 214 youth wrestlers from Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois were treated with a clinic by Olympic hopeful JD Bergman and competed in the Toledo Central Catholic Sullivan Center. See podium shots here.  See photos here.

Dec 22, 2009 Lexington Perkins Trimeet - Varsity wrestlers traveled to Norwalk, Ohio for dual meet competition with the Lexington Minutemen and Sandusky Perkins.  The Irish brought their season dual meet record to 6-2 by defeating highly rated Division II Lexington by a score of 38-24.  CCHS also outpointed the Pirates of Sandusky Perkins by a score of 33-26. Dec 22, 2009 Toledo Central Catholic JH Duals - Wrestlers from nine junior high programs from across the state competed in five dual meets in the Sullivan Center.  The field consisted of Bowling Green, Cincinnati LaSalle, Mentor Lake Catholic, St. Peter Chanel, Timberstone, Tol St. John's, Wauseon and Woodmore. Dec 5, 2009 Moeller Super Duals -  The Varsity team opened the season up with a road trip to Cincinnati OH competing in the Moeller Super Duals. The Irish went 2-2 in dual meets dropping an opening meet 36-31 to a tough Springboro squad.  Next the Irish outpointed Louisville St Xavier, KY by a score of 54-18.  In the third round of competition the Irish were outpointed by Mason by a score of 30-28.  In the final round of competition the Irish defeated Louisville Trinity 42-27. Going undefeated on the day were Seniors Dan Cook, Nico Covarrubias, Jake Henderson and Sophomore Levi Pickerel. Experience was gained with this solid competition!  See photos

Dec 5, 2009 Andy Bates Memorial Tournament - CCHS Freshmen competed in the annual Maumee freshmen tournament. The Irish finished 5th overall scoring 84 points as a team.  Andrew Faunce and Matt Wlodarski took home the top honors, winning their respective weight divisions.  Cornelius Crawford placed third.
