10-11 Jr Rocks Season Summary
Ten Toledo Central Catholic Junior Rocks participated in the 13th annual Junior State Championshps in Youngstown's Cavelli Centre with team Foxfire. Three Junior Rocks earned All-Ohio status. Ten Junior Rocks competed at the 13th annual Junior High Northwest Ohio District tournament at Bowling Green State University's Perry Field House and represented the Foxfire Wrestling Club. Nine wrestlers advance to the JH State Tournament held March 12-13 in Youngstown Ohio. Rosendo B, Josh M, Richard J, and Nate H were each crowned as district Champions! Josh P finished as a district runner-up. Josh V and Colin K placed third. Justin P placed fourth, Lucas B finished fifth. Brandon H finished 7th and is an alternate to the state tournament. Nine
Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to Lakewood St. Edward High School for the Greater Cleveland Area CYO League Championships and all nine were place winners! OthaJ, ColinK, RichardJ, CalixtroM, NateH, and BrandonH all captured individual championships. After six seasons of Toledo teams in the Cleveland CYO league, these champions represent the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th individual CYO champions from Toledo, OH. ColinK became the first ever two time CYO Champ from Toledo! JoshV and JoshM earned runner-up honors and RosendoB placed fourth. Overall Toledo Central Catholic finished third as a team. Eleven 5th through 8th grade Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to Westlake, Oh and competed in the 2011 CYO Duals. Toledo CC went 4-0 as a team and captured the Championship honors. Undefeated wrestlers on the day were: JustinP, JoshP, ColinK, JoshM, CalixtroM, and LucasB. Gallery of 44 Photos.
A reduced CYO squad traveled to Cleveland for a double dual with West Park Catholic Academy and St Thomas More. Plenty of exhibition matches were also contested, excellent experience was gained! Gallery of 46 Photos
Toledo Central Catholic hosted 14 of the top Catholic Junior High Wrestling programs across the state of Ohio at the 13th Annual JH Catholic Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
The TCC Junior Rocks captured the top honors, outpointing the Cincinnati Moeller Gold squad by 36.5 points. Mentor Lake Catholic, Dayton Carroll, and St Brendans/Richards rounded out the top five teams. Josh Portillo, Logan Griffin, Colin Kaucher, and Nate Hagan each won individual honors. Becoming the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th individual JH CIT Champ in Toledo's history! Andrew Hoverson, Josh Mossing and Bobby Livenois placed second. Josh Venia, Alex Martinez, Calixtro Mondragon, Richard Jackson and Brandon Hand all finished 3rd in their respective weight classes.Rosendo Beltran, Alex Phillips, and Michael Gregory finished in fourth place. Three hundred and fifty-two wrestlers from four states converged on the Toledo Central Catholic Sullivan Center for a full day of wrestling. Top youth wrestling clubs were represented. Foxfire, Hoosier Elite Wrestling Academy, Fremont wrestling club took home the top honors. Akron Gladiators, Cincinnati GoldenCross wrestling, LorainCounty West Side WC, Davison MI, Team Shamrock Novi MI, Team TNT Bryon, MI, Delta, Cardinal Wrestling Club (CWC), Defiance, and Whitmer wrestling clubs were all represented. Eleven Junior Rock CYO wrestlers traveled to Westlake, OH and competed in dual meets with Our Lady of the Lake and St. Bernadette. The gang participated in twenty-eight individual matches and came home with twenty-four victories. Great experience was gained by all. See Photo Gallery
Twelve 7th & 8th grade wrestlers traveled to Wauseon OH for the 3rd annual Midwest Junior High duals tournament. The Junior Rocks wrestled solid teams from Holt Mi, Findlay, Delta, Fassett, and Mentor Lake Catholic. The squad ended the day with a 4-1 record as a team. Excellent experience was gained. Seventeen Junior Rock 5th through 8th grade CYO wrestlers traveled to Blessed Trinity Parish in Cleveland for dual matches with St Joseph & John and St. Thomas Moore. The squad participated in a solid afternoon of wrestling with a total of thirty-five varsity and exhibition matches coming home with twenty-eight victories. While the 8th graders were taking the placement test, eleven 7th grade Junior Rock wrestlers traveled to Norwalk and competed in the fourteen team field at the annual Norwalk St. Paul Invitational. Filling 9 of the 16 JH weight divisions, Toledo Central Catholic earned seven individual championships and came home with the team championship trophy! Overall it was a day of great sportsmanship and camaraderie for the 7th grade wrestlers in their first ever junior high tournament. See Photo Gallery
The Junior Rocks is a 5th thru 8th grade wrestling club for individuals interested in the wrestling experience that includes CYO activities. We wrestle a very competitive schedule, however, we are geared to train for the future. We focus on the fundamentals and techniques that apply to first year and advanced wrestlers alike.
Our club was set up to offer wrestling to local Catholic students, however, all are welcome. Much of the training occurs at the USA wrestling Foxfire Regional Training Facility. See Flyer.
