10-11 High School Season Summary
The Irish of Toledo Central Catholic finished in 15th place in the 74th annual Division II OHSAA State wrestling championships. Five CCHS wrestlers entered the tournament and competed in twenty-one matches earning eleven victories and capturing three state placements. Senior Tony Martin was third at 160lbs and became the school's 8th two time state placer completing his senior season with a record of 41-7 and 120+ career victories!! 103 pounder Matt Pool stood on the podium in 8th place and finished his Sophomore season with a record of 34-13. Alex Mossing becomes the school's first ever Freshman State Place winner earning 7th place at 119 pounds and finishing his rookie
season with a record of 42-9. Senior Chase Leedy finished a stellar season and career and experienced wrestling in the big show, congratulations to Chase! Senior DJ Beauch finished his high school career as a three time state qualifier with over 130 career victories. Although DJ's Senior campaign wasn't what he hoped and worked hard for he has aspirations of continuing his love for the sport and competing at the collegiate level. Matt
Pool, Alex Mossing, and Tony Martin earn victories on day two and represent Toledo Central Catholic's 27th, 28th, and 29th State Place winners in school history! Matt, Alex, and Tony will be wrestling in the OHSAA Division II State Championships on Saturday. Matt and Alex each will compete for 7th place. Tony is still vying for 3rd place and competes at 10am Sat in the Consolation semifinal. Then Matt, Alex and Tony will compete at 11am.
To begin the second day of wrestling the Irish were 0 for 4 in the championship quarterfinal round. Battling back in the 2nd consolation round, Matt Pool (34-11) defeated
Derik Kopp of Tiffin Columbian by a score of 6-5. Alex Mossing (41-8) defeated Walt Gibson of Akron St. Vincent St. Mary's by a score of 2-0. Senior Tony Martin (37-7) pinned Junior Michael Burge (41-10) from Wilmington in 2:25. Senior DJ Beauch (33-9) held a 2-0 lead after two periods but was outpointed by Conor Driscoll, Hilliard Bradley in the end. Although very disappointed, DJ Beauch ends an outstanding high school career as a 3x state qualifier with 130+ total victories! DJ has given the fans of CCHS wrestling lots of great memories from four fabulous years of wrestling! The Irish of Toledo Central Catholic competed in six matches on day one of the 74th annual OHSAA Division II State wrestling championships and captured four victories in the
first round of championship action. Upon completion of the first full day of wrestling CCHS is tied for 9th place in the Division II team race. 103lb Sophomore Matt Pool (33-10) defeated Freshman Lyle Plummer (39-4) of Dayton Chaminade-Julienne by a score of 2-0. 119lb Freshman Alex Mossing (40-7) defeated Senior David Coates (21-5) from Mentor Lake Catholic by a score of 1-0. 125lb Senior Chase Leedy (37-9) was outpointed by Senior Robby Reed (41-3) of Canfield by a score of 2-0. At 145lbs, Senior DJ Beauch (33-7) pinned Junior Nathan Bowers (39-9) of Washington C.H. Miami Trace in 1:59. 160lb Senior Tony Martin (37-6) defeated Junior Scott Boyce (45-5) of Minerva by a score of 6-3. In the 1st consolation round Senior Chase Leedy was defeated by Junior Brodie Scherer (38-4) of Warsaw River View by a score of 7-1. Five Toledo Central Catholic wrestlers advance
to the 74th Annual OHSAA State Wrestling Championships held in the Jerome Schottenstein Center at The Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio. CCHS is one of ten Ohio schools qualifying five or more wrestlers to the division II State Championships. 103 lb Sophomore Matt Pool, 119lb Freshman Alex Mossing, 145lb Senior DJ Beauch, 160lb Senior Tony Martin all advance as district runner-ups. 125lb Senior Chase Leedy advances as a third place district finisher. Eight Toledo Central Catholic district qualifiers earned victories on day one and the Irish finished 12-4 after two championship rounds of wrestling. Day two saw plenty of action for the Irish, competing in another twenty-one matches securing fourteen additional victories. Toledo Central Catholic advances eight to the district championships.
CCHS battled in a quality sectional tournament placing eight wrestlers in the championship finals and winning five individual titles. 103lb Sophomore Matt Pool (29-9), 119lb Freshman Alex Mossing (36-6), 135lb Junior Alex Padilla (31-12), 145lb Senior DJ Beauch (29-6), 285lb Junior Levi Pickerel (32-8) all won individual championships! 125lb Senior Chase Leedy (32-7), 140lb Junior Sam Viengmany (32-10), 160lb Senior Tony Martin (33-5) all finished second in their respective weight classes. 152lb Senior Jason Mossing, 171lb Freshman Esteban Nino, and 215lb Senior Kelvin Lawernce all finished 5th as district alternates. 112lb Freshman Zach Kern finished 6th. The Irish
competed in the Toledo City League Championships at Oregon Clay. Seniors Jason Mossing, Tony Martin, and Kelvin Lawrence each were recognized for earning Academic All-City honors. Alex Mossing, Chase Leedy and Tony Martin all earned an individual championship! Both Chase and Tony earned their second TCL Championship. Matt Pool, Sam Viengmany, DJ Beauch, Jason Mossing, and Levi Pickerel all earned runner-up honors. Alex Padilla placed third. Nine Junior Varsity wrestlers competed in the 2011 Toledo City League Tournament. Zach Kern, Matt Wlodarski, Shawn Murrey, were individual champions! Andy Faunce was a runner-up. The Irish of Toledo Central Catholic were 5-0 in dual meet competition capturing the Team championship at the Eastwood Duals. Gallery of 61 photos. CCHS defeated Tiffin Columian 31-24, outpointed Eastwood 49-18, and were victorious over Findlay, Willard & Dublin Scioto, 54-21, 56-12, 53-12 respectively. Matt Pool, Chase Leedy, Sam Viengmany, DJ Beauch, Tony Martin, and Levi Pickerel were 5-0 and undefeated on the day.

CCHS traveled to Oregon Clay for dualmeet competition, the Eagles provided an outstanding environment and some stiff competition outpointing the Irish by a score of 40-24. The Varsity squad traveled to Amherst to compete with two solid squads. The Irish edged out St Ignatius 31-30 and outpointed the Comets of Amherst Steele by a score of 39-24. The Irish outpointed Tol St Francis 50-11 and the Tol St John's Titans 61-12 to capture the 2nd Annual Toledo Catholic Cup Tri-meet. Double winners earning the maximum amount of bonus points were: Freshman Zach Kern (two Falls), Freshman Alex Mossing (Fall & FF), Junior Sam Viengmany (Fall & FF), and Senior Tony Martin (two FFs). Other double winners on the night were Sophomore Nigel Cramer, Senior Chase Leedy, Senior JeShondre Hollins, Junior Alex Padilla, Senior Jason Mossing, Freshman Esteban Nino, and Junior Levi Pickerel. Toledo Central Catholic invited all of Ohio's Catholic High School wrestling programs to the 50th annual Catholic Invitational Tournament hosted in the Sullivan Center on the campus of CCHS. The field resulted in 33 teams and the Irish
finished fourth in the team race while having eight individual place winners. Tony Martin(160) finished as a runner-up; Chase Leedy(125), Sam Viengmany(140), DJ Beauch(145), and Levi Pickerel(285) all placed 3rd; Alex Padilla(135) placed 4th; JeShondre Hollins(130) placed 5th;

CITs escorted the American Flag into the Sullivan Center prior to the finals. The weekend was filled a sense of history as everyone had the opportunity to view newspaper articles, trophies, and memorabilia from CITs starting from 1961. The written program contained results collected from all of the previous tournaments.

The evening began with six Seniors being recognized with their parents. DJ Beauch, JeShondre Hollins, Kelvin Lawrence, Chase Leedy, Tony Martin and Jason Mossing were all introduced and recognized. The Irish were soundly defeated by two quality squads in Dundee, MI and Detroit Catholic Central. Double winners on the evening were Sophomore Matt Pool and Freshman Alex Mossing. The Irish of Toledo Central Catholic entered thirteen wrestlers into the 50th Annual Brecksville Holiday Invitational Tournament earning points in twelve weight classes. Eight wrestlers advanced to day2, five were place winners with two reaching the Championship finals. The squad finished in 11th place out of a field of 42 teams. Seniors DJ Beauch and Tony Martin earned runner-up honors. Senior Jason Mossing placed 6th, Junior Levi Pickerel placed 7th and Sophomore Matt Pool finished 8th. Congratulations to all! The Central Catholic varsity gray squad competed in five dual meets at the Sylvania Southview Tournament against Hilliard Bradley, Northwood, Evergreen, St Edward Green, and Sylvania Southview. To open the season, Toledo Central Catholic competed in a dual meet with Wauseon High School. Wauseon's lineup contained 9 returning district qualifiers, 4 state qualifiers and a state placer. The 12/8/2010 State Coaches Poll ranks Wauseon as Ohio's 4th best Division II squad. The Irish produced points in 8 of the 14 weight divisions earning a victory by a score of 33-27. The Toledo Central Catholic freshmen team opened their season with competition at the annual Maumee Invitational Tournament. Twelve wrestlers competed and finished in fourth place in the fifteen team field. Kevin O'Rourke finished as a runner-up. Kevin Johnson and Stevenson Gillespie finished 3rd, Cody Kiester placed 4th.
