Toledo Central Catholic qualified five wrestlers to the 75th annual OHSAA State Wrestling
Championships. First year head Coach Tony Guerra's squad finished in 15th place in the Division II team standings, the Irish competed in twenty-one matches, secured twelve victories and earned two individual All-State wrestling honors. Nate Hagan's seventh place finish at 120lbs represents the school's 30th state place winner and Central Catholic's 2nd ever Freshman state place winner. Nate completed his rookie season with a record of 40-11. Sophomore Alex
Mossing captured a third place finish at 132lbs, becomes the school's 31st state place winner and ninth
2X State Placer. Alex finishes his sophomore year with a 47-11 season record and 89 total victories. During the third day of wrestling, in the consolation semifinals, Alex Mossing pinned Junior Dylan Kager (43-3) from Mantua Crestwood in 2:03. Alex then defeated Senior Arron Thompson (29-2) from London by a score of 8-2 to capture a third place finish at 132lbs. Freshman Nate Hagan defeated Senior Jose Parsons (45-4) from Newark Licking Valley for 7th place by a score of 3-2. On Day #2, in quarterfinal action Sophomore Alex Mossing earned a birth into the semifinal round by outpointing Ryan Skonieczny from Akron St. Vincent St. Mary by a score of 6-4. Freshman Nate Hagan lost a very
close bout to Jesse Gunter from Akron Coventry by a score of 2-1. Senior Levi Pickerel was pinned by projected state champion Riley Shaw from Washington Court House. In Consolation Round 2 Freshman Nate Hagan won an overtime victory over Junior Kole Trigg (41-8) from Washington Court House by a score of 11-6. Senior Levi Pickerel pinned Senior B.J. Hall (36-10) from Circleville Logan Elm in 1:53. Matt Pool was defeated by Cuyahoga Falls CVCA's Ryan Bennett (36-8) and finishes has Junior season with a 32-12 record, as a two time State Qualifier and one time state place winner. Senior Sam Viengmany was defeated by two time state place winner T.J. Fox (43-3) from Field HS by a score of 3-1. In championship semifinal action Alex Mossing was 24 seconds away from the state finals winning 1-0 and riding in a very solid fashion in the third period. Well known foe Senior Collin McDermitt (41-4) from Lima Shawnee was able to gain a reversal for the 2-1 victory. In consolation quarterfinal action Nate Hagan again wrestled Senior and returning state runnerup Calvin Campbell (44-5) from Lexington seven total periods before losing in the ultimate tie breaker by a reversal. Toledo Central Catholic showcases five
wrestlers at the OHSAA 75th State Wrestling Tournament at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus Ohio and earned five victories in seven matches on Day 1 of competition. In preliminary round competition the Irish were 3-2. Junior 106lb Matt Pool (31-11) was defeated by Cameron Kelly (42-1) of Bellbrook. Freshman 120lb Nate Hagan (38-9) outpointed Junior Isaac Hammonds (33-13) from Dover HS 3-1. Sophomore 132lb Alex
Mossing (44-10) defeated Senior Stanley Hendricks (32-3) from Columbus
Centennial by a score of 7-5. Senior Sam Viengmany (38-8) was edged by Senior Nathan Bowers (37-6) from Washington Courthouse Miami Trace 3-2. Senior 285lb Levi Pickerel (34-7) won by decision over Senior William Corso (17-8) from Uhrichsville Claymont by a score of 5-3. In the DII Consolation Round1 Matt Pool (32-11) decisioned Junior Josh Henderson (35-5) from Lisbon Beaver by a score of 10-6. Catholic advances five to the State Championships! Freshman Nate Hagan (120) and Senior Levi Pickerel(285) were finanlists and finished as runners-up. Junior Matt Pool (106) finished fourth. Sophomore Alex Mossing (132) was third and Senior Sam Viengmany (145) finished fourth.
CCHS won twelve of their first sixteen individual matches on Day1 of the NW Ohio DII District Championships
at the Marion Coliseum. All eight CCHS wrestlers advanced to day2. Matt Pool, Nate Hagan, Sam Viengmany, and Levi Pickerel were undefeated on day1. Toledo Central Catholic traveled to Lima Shawnee High School for sectional
competition and advances eight wrestlers to the District Championships! As a team, CCHS finished as Sectional runner-ups. Irish hosted the 1st Annual TRAC Wrestling Championships in the Sullivan Center on the campus of Toledo Central Catholic and earned team runner-up honors. Alex Mossing and Matt Pool were named to the TRAC All-Academic Team. Freshman Nate Hagan (120) and Senior Sam Viengmany (145) earned individual championships!

The Junior
Varsity Irish competed in the inaugural Three Rivers Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships. Sophomore Zach Kern (120lbs) and Freshman JQuan Fisher (285lbs) earned individual Championships! The
Irish traveled to Pemberville for the Eastwood Duals. As a team, CCHS went 2-3 in dualmeets on the day and ended the 2011-2012 dualmeet season with an overall dualmeet record of 9-7. The Junior Varsity Irish
traveled across town to compete in the Clay Invitational tournament. Lucas Beauch was crowned as an individual champion, Ryan Keister finished as a runner-up and Stevenson Gillespie finished fourth. Gallery of 4 photos. Congratulations Irish!
The Fighting Irish
wrestlers competed in the Anthony Wayne Duals winning five dual meets oupointing their opponents 266-79 to win a team championship! CCHS defeated Bryan 61-12, Anthony Wayne 46-18, Fostoria 59-12, Lima Shawnee 54-7, and Elida 46-30 in the finals. Prior to hosting the #7 in the state rated
Clay Eagles in dual meet competition, the Toledo area wrestling community recognized Coach Gary Burgess for 32+ years of coaching and mentorship. Coach Burgess has positively affected hundreds and hundreds of young lives and has been an important part of countless successful wrestling careers. Coach Guerra like many others got his start in wrestling under the direction of Coach Gary at the East Toledo Wrestling Club.
The Irish were outpointed 41-12 by the Eagles. Six of the fourteen matches were decided by two points or less and three of those matches went to overtime to determine the victor. On Senior night, Central Catholic outpointed St Francis 53-18 and distanced St John's 51-18 to capture 'The cup'! The Irish retain the Catholic Cup for the third consecutive season! Two of the three dualmeets were televised on BCSN. Seniors: Emily Mossing, Jason Krieg, Alex Padilla, Levi Pickerel,

Catholic traveled to Cincinnati Elder to compete in Ohio's 51st Annual Catholic Invitational Tournament and finished as team runner-up's out of a thirty team field. Winning individual titles for the Irish were junior Matt Pool (106lbs), senior Sam Viengmany (145), and senior Levi Pickerel (285). This was the second time since 2009 that the team finished as runner-ups but the
individual
three titles hasn't happened since 1963. These individual titles represent the ninth, tenth, and eleventh CIT Championship earned by CCHS wrestlers over the last 50 years. Placing third was freshman Nate Hagan (120). Earning fourth place finishes were freshman Josh Mossing (113), sophomore Alex Mossing (126), and senior Alex Padilla (138). Placing sixth for Toledo Central Catholic was senior Vicente Vielma (152). Also congratulations to Toledo St. John's senior Ted Schoen on earning a title at 195lbs. Varsity wrestlers traveled to Temperence, MI to compete in the Bedford Invitational. Junior Zach Kern, Freshman Lucas Beauch, earned individual Championships! Toledo Central Catholic headed to Novi Michigan for the DCC invitational featuring several of the top wrestling programs in Michigan. The Irish finished 6th out of the 16 team field. Individually, Freshman Nate Hagan, Sophomore Alex Mossing, and Senior Sam Viengmany each earned a 3rd place spot on the podium. Senior Levi Pickerel placed fourth and Junior Shawn Murrey placed 6th. Junior Varsity squad traveled to Fulton County for the Evergreen Invitational. The Irish came home with the top honors as a team by sending seven to the finals and coming away with four individual champions. Junior Nigel Cramer, Sophomore Zach Kern, Freshmen Michael Gregory and JQuan Fisher each earned a Championship!

Central Catholic took ten varsity wrestlers to the 51st Brecksville Holiday Tournament eight of which earned team points for the Irish. CCHS finished in 12th place out of the 37 team field with five individuals capturing a spot on the podium. Seniors Sam Viengmany (145lbs) and Levi Pickerel (285lbs) earned fourth place finishes. Central Catholic hosted three youth tournaments in a two day period. On Tuesday the Toledo Central Catholic Junior High Duals consisted of teams from Team Foxfire, Delta Ohio, Penn Indania, and a standout squad from the state of Michigan. See Gallery of photos here. The Junior Varsity squad traveled across town for the Tol St. John's Invitational Tournament and placed sixth out of field of fifteen teams. Results and photos coming soon.
Coach Guerra took eight Freshmen into battle with two NE Ohio Teams. The Irish came away with 12 victories but fell short in both dual meets. The St Ignatius Wildcats outpointed the Irish by a score of 43-30 while the Amherst Steele Comets edged CCHS 37-31. Double winners on the day were: Josh Mossing, Alex Mossing, and Sam Viengmany. Toledo Central Catholic took a young squad to the Fremont St Joe Duals tournament to compete with several Varsity teams as well as several very solid Junior Varsity teams. Earning four victories on the day were: Lucas Beauch and Vicente Vielma. Michael Gregory, Zach Kern, and Colin Kaucher were victorious three times on the day. Jason Krieg, Jalonte Heard, and Jquan Fisher earned two victories for CCHS.
The varsity team traveled to Columbus to participate in the Olentangy Liberty Classic and finished as team runner-ups in the sixteen team field. The Irish were outpointed by Sandusky Perkins by a score of 197 to 194. Winning individual Championships for CCHS were Matt Pool (106), Josh Mossing (113), Alex Mossing (132), and Sam Viengmany (145). Earning second place honors were Hate Hagan (126) and Levi Pickerel (285). Placing fifth were Nigel Cramer (120) and Esteban Nino (170). Shawn Murrey placed 6th at 182lbs. The Junior Varsity squad participated in the Whitmer Invitational Tournament. Placing first was Sophomore Zach Kern and Freshman Colin Kaucher. JQuan Fisher who went three and one for the day placed 2nd. Placing third was Joe Campose (4-1) and Michael Gregory (3-2) placed fourth. Congratulations Junior Varsity wrestlers!

Seventeen Central Catholic freshmen traveled to Maumee to participate in the Annual Andy Bates Memorial Tournament. The Irish placed third out of eighteen teams scoring 106 points. Colin Kaucher was crowned as a champion at 130lbs. Jolente Heard was 2nd at 171lbs, Casey Gopp and Lucas Beauch were 3rd at 140 and 98 pounds respectively. The Irish opened their 2011-2012 wrestling season with a home dual meet with NW district foe, Wauseon high school. The Indians came prepared and earned team points in nine of the fourteen weight classes outpointing the Irish by a score of 46 - 24. The Toledo Central Catholic wrestlers had the opportunity to put their uniforms on for the first time this season and compete in a Preview at Perrysburg High School. All in all the team competed in twenty plus 1-1-1 matches. The varsity squad won 8 out of 14 bouts against a very good Perrysburg team. See gallery of 12 photos.

CCHS names Tony Guerra as head wrestling coach. Coach Guerra is kicking the summer off with morning conditioning and lifting sessions. M,T, Th, Fr mornings from 9-10:30am and hosting two open camps at the foxfire training facility. See announcment blade article.

27,28,29 June - Foundation Camp Mon-Wed from 9am-noon, 2yrs or less experience
25-28 July - "Be the Champ Camp" Mon-Thur, two sessions daily 8-11am, noon-2pm
